What are the deadlines for grant applications?
As of December 15th, 2003 the George Family Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. Invited applicants are encouraged to discuss their request with staff before submitting an application. Deadlines for these proposals are May 30 and October 30.

How does one become an invited applicant?
Over the life of the Foundation the Directors have developed trusted working relationship with grantees. The George Family Foundation prefers sustained engagement with grantees but remains open to a limited number of new possibilities. Therefore, the Foundation will be proactive in seeking new funding partnerships.

What are the foundation’s primary funding interests?

  • Integrative Medicine Programs and initiatives that promote an integrated approach to healing mind, body, heart and spirit.
  • Leadership Development Promoting the development of future business leaders who are willing to be genuine, authentic people, able to rally others together in order to take on challenges both in the corporate sector and the world at large. This became a primary giving area for the Foundation in 2004.
  • Educational Opportunity Programs with potential to positively impact individuals and thus society by providing educational opportunities to talented students.
  • Social Justice Programs that address societal barriers that prevent the fulfillment of human potential.
  • Spirituality Programs which enrich the spiritual lives of individuals, families and communities.

Does the Foundation fund nationally? Internationally?
The George Family Foundation funds nationally in the field of integrative medicine and locally in the Twin Cities and to lesser extent the Vail Valley of Colorado. The Foundation's international grantmaking is highly selective and is not a primary focus. 

Does the Foundation give to individuals?
The IRS has strict regulations governing gifts to individuals. Due to these regulations, the Foundation does not make gifts to individuals.

Our Restrictions
We do not give to:

  • Endowment or capital campaigns.
  • Programs in which the family has no active interest or involvement.
  • Individuals.
  • Memberships, special events or other fundraisers.
  • Retire debt or cover operating losses.
