Important Study Presents Evidence of Acupuncture as an Effective Strategy for Comprehensive Pain Management From GFF Grantee, the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health

The American Academy of Pain Medicine has published an updated white paper by George Family Foundation grantee, the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health: Acupuncture Therapy as an Evidence-Based Nonpharmacologic Strategy for Comprehensive Acute Pain Care.

Drawing on 22 systematic reviews, 17 with meta-analyses of acupuncture in acute pain settings, plus a review for acute pain in the intensive care unit and additional studies of acupuncture in acute pain settings, the evidence demonstrated acupuncture therapy to be an effective strategy for acute pain, with an extremely low risk profile, and a critically important capacity to reduce (or even completely avoid) opioid reliance.
