"The Bravewell Story: How a small community of philanthropists made a big difference in healthcare"

The George Family Foundation provided funding to the Bravewell Collaborative from 2002-2013. Penny George, chair of the George Family Foundation, was one of the co-founders of the collaborative. Penny’s own transformative experience with breast cancer led her into the field of integrative medicine. The Bravewell Collaborative was a community of leading philanthropists who worked together to transform the healthcare system and improve the health of the American public through the advancement of integrative medicine.

Over its 10-year history, the Bravewell Collaborative funded initiatives that supported broad systemic health care change including the Bravewell Clinical Network (BraveNet), the Leadership Program in Integrative Healthcare at Duke University, PREMIER (a practice-based research network) and the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health. Having accomplished its mission, Bravewell chose to sunset in 2015.
